BIRN announces Free Serbian Language Course for Albanian Journalists

Deadline: 12-Mar-21

Balkan Investigative Reporting Network (BIRN) has announced a new Albanian–Serbian language course, as part of the EU-funded project Solidifying the Resilience of Kosovo’s Current and Future Journalists.

Through this activity, BIRN aims to increase the capacities of professional journalists and promote cultural diversity by engaging 20 Albanian journalists or students of journalism in Serbian language courses over a period of six months. This will not only help more media professionals become ready to report on topics in the north of Kosovo as well as other Serb-majority areas, but will also help journalists of different ethnicities to learn each other’s languages, improving the cultural exchange between the two groups and leading to improved cooperation in reporting.

A significant objective of this project is to promote human rights and inter-ethnic investigative teams, while the project partners are seeking to promote inter-ethnic cooperation and cultural diversity through this activity.

This activity will be implemented in cooperation with their project partner TV Mreza, who will also provide 20 Serbian journalists with opportunities to learn Albanian, so they will have access to resources in the Albanian language.
