Europe Foundation has announced a call for applications for journalists to participate in a series of training sessions on investigative reporting.
The goal of the training is to support the watchdog function of the Georgian media by building journalists’ capacity in investigative reporting. EPF would like to support the participants in learning how to make informed and ethical decisions on what stories to select and how to design and execute powerful investigations.
As a result of these trainings the participants should also learn about techniques for effective sourcing and interviewing and tips on how to ensure accuracy of their stories. Given EPF’s mission and objectives, these capacity building activities will also focus on ways in which journalists can maximize chances of creating tangible changes through their investigative work.
The training will be led by Brant Houston and Mark Horvit, award-winning investigative journalists, media school professors, and authors of an internationally acclaimed investigative journalism textbook Investigative Reporter’s Handbook: A Guide to Documents, Databases, and Techniques. Due to the restrictions imposed globally by the COVID-10 pandemic, the training will take place view Zoom platform during July 27 – August 20, 2020. It will involve 90-minutes sessions each Monday and 45-minute sessions on Thursdays, with the latter dedicated to discussing assignments and addressing questions from the participants.
The training program includes theory and practical assignments. Working language is English, however, simultaneous translation will be provided as needed.
Eligibility Criteria
To participate in the training, the applicants should meet the following criteria:
- Hold a degree in Journalism or Media Studies.
- Have at least three years of working experience in journalism.
- Knowledge of spoken and written English is desirable.
