Deadline: 18-Aug-2025
The Balkan Investigative Reporting Network (BIRN) Albania has launched a call for applications for journalists to produce in-depth articles focusing on electoral integrity and political discourse in Albania. Up to three grants will be awarded to support investigative work on key electoral issues, with mentoring provided by experienced editors.
This initiative is part of the EU co-funded project “Evidence-Based Monitoring of Local Public Spending during Electoral Processes,” implemented by Qëndresa Qytetare in partnership with BIRN Albania. The project seeks to improve integrity, transparency, and fairness in Albania’s elections by addressing issues such as misuse of public funds, electoral crimes, the politicization of public administration, political party finances, criminal involvement in politics, digital media misuse, hate speech, and barriers to political participation for women and youth.
Each selected journalist will receive a €1,500 gross scholarship and will have three to five months to conduct research and complete their article. They will also benefit from mentorship to meet BIRN’s editorial standards.
The call is open to Albanian journalists with prior experience on these topics. Both individuals and teams may apply, and proposals can include investigations, data-rich reports, or feature stories. Applicants must be independent and free from conflicts of interest. While multiple proposals may be submitted, only one per applicant will be selected.
Applications must be submitted in Albanian via email and include a proposal, CV, and two samples of previous work.
