The Bob and Millie Lynn Grant Program encourages photojournalists to pursue stories that expose the side of American society that tends to be under-covered and ignored.

The focus areas, objectives, priorities, and themes of the grant are: recipients are expected to adhere to a project timeline and communicate their progress monthly with NPPF’s coordinator, complete the project within one year of the grant agreement, submit sufficient high-resolution images or videos with comprehensive captions to document the grant, and provide a written document outlining work on the grant. Recipients must adhere to the highest professional, ethical, and personal standards for visual journalists, avoiding any digital manipulation of images in violation of generally accepted professional photojournalistic standards, and NPPF retains the right to rescind awards if violations occur.

The grant awards four thousand dollars ($4,000) upon selection, with an additional one thousand dollars ($1,000) provided upon receipt of at least twenty-five (25) digital images and any videos within eighteen (18) months of the grant. Eligibility is limited to photojournalists and photojournalism students legally authorized to work in the United States, Puerto Rico, or the United States Minor Outlying Islands, with no geographic restrictions on where stories may be photographed.

Applicants are required to submit personal details, a concise bio, a CV with 2-3 professional references, a project title, a project description of fewer than 2,500 characters, a project proposal under 4,000 characters including a brief timeline, and a body of work of up to 24 images for still-only applications or 2-3 videos under 10 minutes each for video applications. Submitted digital images should be in .JPG format, 3,000 pixels on the long side, and include IPTC fields with captions, city/state, date, creator/photographer, and copyright information.

Recipients retain ownership and copyright of their work, while granting NPPF the right to use their name, likeness, biographical information, submitted images, or videos on NPPF’s website, social media, and promotional materials. The foundation may also use the project for educational purposes, including distribution to colleges and universities of its choosing.

Applications for the Bob & Millie Lynn Grant will be accepted until Friday, October 31, 2025, at 4:59 p.m. EDT.
