The German non-profit organization IJP (International Journalists’ Programmes) invites applications for a bursary for journalists who want to devote six to eight weeks specifically to reporting on climate and energy issues.
The bursary offers this opportunity for up to ten journalists from Germany and Poland with a passion for climate and energy topics.
Purpose of the Programme
- IJP is a non-profit organization offering journalist exchange programmes between Germany and more than 40 other countries and regions. The purpose of these exchanges is to allow participating journalists to experience their host countries from a correspondent’s perspective, exchange knowledge and deepen their network while working in and reporting on a foreign country.
- Journalists, who are granted the climate & energy bursary, will receive a deeper and more detailed insight into the field and get the opportunity to work and specialize topically and internationally alike. They are also welcome to pursue a transnational research on a common topic during their fellowship.
Funding Information
Each fellow will receive a stipend of 3.800 Euro to help cover costs for accommodation and personal expenses during his or her stay. The participant must cover any additional costs.
Eligibility Criteria
- The participating journalists will do their stay at their respective journalistic host organizations. The stays and placements at a medium, which usually last six to eight weeks, will take place flexibly at a time of the fellow’s choice/according in 2023.
- Journalists from Germany will stay at a host media in Poland for the time of the scholarship, while the journalists from Poland will spend their time in a media house in Germany. These media are selected by IJP in consideration of the interests, qualifications and wishes of the fellows. While being embedded partly in the workflow of the host media, the scholars will work on their own journalistic projects and mainly report for media in their home country.
- During the stay, the fellow will get to know the host country better, establish contacts to local journalists and deepen his or her knowledge about climate and energy issues. As part of the fellowship, there will be two conferences for the fellows to get to know each other, network, and deepen knowledge and skills.
- The participants are asked to deliver a report of their experiences. It should also include all contributions produced during their stay. After the exchange, they encourage the participants to stay in touch with each other through the IJP alumni network through which they will have the chance to meet many of IJP’s former scholars in Germany and more than 40 other countries.
