The Thomson Reuters Foundation and the Wellspring Philanthropic Fund have partnered to deliver a programme that will strengthen support for the work of Wellspring Women Rights’ program grantees in increasing women’s economic justice narrative as a means of achieving a more gender-equitable and therefore sustainable economic recovery and long-term outlook.
TRF will cultivate alliance building through network facilitation between journalists/citizen journalists, gender equality advocates and feminist economics thinkers and movements supported by Wellspring to increase awareness among the public and key stakeholders to inform the narrative about gender-just economic policy alternatives and influence decision-making at national and global level.
Roles
- The role of Journalists
- Journalists have a vital role: reporting on economic justice for women. Through impactful, balanced and engaging journalism that shines a critical light on a fairer future and keeps stakeholders informed and accountable for their actions.
- The role of Civil Society Organizations (CSO)
- CSOs are crucial in the work of promoting economic justice for women, especially those who have been marginalized by recent economic crises. More than ever, it is essential to raise social awareness about the need for economic justice for women, through effective communication strategies and collaboration with journalism professionals.
Goals
- Journalists improve their ability to report on women’s rights in the region, as well as challenges and possible economic solutions.
- CSOs/NGOs will strengthen their communication skills to raise awareness and promote women’s rights and economic justice initiatives.
Benefits
- Journalists who complete the course are eligible for a £300 financial grant and mentoring to produce a news piece on economic justice for women in their country of residence.
- The course is free for selected participants.
- The Thomson Reuters Foundation will organize and cover travel, hotel and subsistence costs for participants from Mexico, Peru and Uruguay.
Who can apply?
- Journalists: Full-time journalists or regular collaborators of media organizations in Argentina, Uruguay, Mexico, or Peru.
- CSO/NGO: Communication Staff in a CSO/NGO working full time.
- Spanish native level. Training will be given in Spanish.
- Minimum of three years of professional experience.
