Internews is currently inviting Afghan media outlets in the provinces (excluding Kabul, Balkh and Herat) to submit applications for the Small Grants Fund of the USAID supported Rasana program.
Sub grants issued under the Small Grant Fund RFA will fund the production of content on local public interest stories from print, online, radio and TV in unstable and underserved areas of Afghanistan.
Project Goal
The goal of Rasana is to support the Afghan media sector to provide reliable and balanced information to citizens across the country.
The program aims to achieve this goal through four program area:
- Support and training for women journalists
- Support for investigative journalism initiatives
- Advocacy and training for the protection of journalists
- Expanding the outreach of media through small grants for content production in underserved areas
Funding Information
- Under this RFA, Internews anticipates awarding nine grants of up to of $10,000 each, for a grant period of 6 – 8 months
- Total funding pool available: USD $90,000
- Maximum funds available per award: USD $10,000
- Organizations may submit only one application.
Timeline
Internews anticipates awarding sub grants to the selected respondents in January 2019, for a performance of up to 6 – 8 months, ending September 2019.
Eligibility Criteria
Applicants must meet the following criteria in order to be considered eligible for the award resulting from this RFA:
- A local, independent and registered media organization or entity holding below licenses;
- Ministry of Information and Culture,
- Ministry of Communication and Information Technology (ATRA)
- AISA or Ministry of Commerce
- In case of non-profit media outlet, a license from Ministry of Economics or Ministry of Justice
- All applicants must be in good standing in terms of performance and reporting under previous sub grants from Internews or any other organization, if applicable;
- All applicants should be committed to meet all reporting requirements and deadlines;
