The Uganda Press Photo Award (UPPA) has an Open Theme, which allows photographers complete creative freedom.
This year’s Uganda Press Photo Award theme is Open, giving photographers the freedom to explore any subject through photojournalism or documentary photography. They welcome narrative or editorial bodies of work that reflect Uganda’s diverse realities, be it social, political, economic, technological, cultural, or environmental. Whether you focus on daily life, sports, nature, or major events, they want to see your most compelling visual stories

Eligibility Criteria
- Only photographs in digital form will be accepted. There should be no watermarks, identifying marks or names of authors written on the photographs.
- Make sure for each photograph submitted you have a printable copy saved as highest quality jpg, at 300 dpi, minimum 6000 pixels on the longer side.
- All photographs should include a caption (short description of who, what, where, when, why. Not more than 50 words per photograph. Include when and where the photograph was first published.) in the EXIF data/metadata.
- Remember the theme for this year’s Uganda Press Photo Award is ‘OPEN’ so any images submitted should be in response to that theme.
- All submissions are made via a Story created from the Visura open call interface
- The contest is restricted to citizens of Uganda 18 years of age or older.
- All entries must have been worked on within the last 2 years, and must be submitted by July 20th 2025.
Ineligibility Criteria
- Photos that have been digitally altered beyond standard optimization will not be accepted.
