UNDP Call for Proposals for the Initiative "Conflict Prevention and Promotion of Social Cohesion in Madagascar"

Deadline: 25-Feb-23

The Thomson Reuters Foundation (TRF) will offer an in-person journalism training titled “Reporting on Human Trafficking and Modern Slavery: A Solutions Approach.”

The training, which will last 5 days and will be led by an expert journalist, will provide a deep dive into this complex topic from the angle of solutions journalism, to provide new approaches to stories more accessible to the public. The program aims to strengthen the knowledge and skills of the participants to produce compelling and impactful reports through solutions journalism and data visualization, and connect them with experts in the field in which they work combating these problems.

The global trade in human beings is greater today than at any time in history. The United Nations estimates that at least 50 million people worldwide are victims of modern slavery, and has said the crime generates $150 billion a year in illegal profits. Journalists have a vital and powerful role in unraveling this complex problem and producing impactful reporting that is nuanced, engaging and compelling.

This year, the training also offers a networking reception where journalists can meet with experts working in the area of anti-trafficking and anti-slavery to learn about their work and foster collaboration and new sources of information stories.
