Thomson Reuters Foundation (TRF) is offering an English-language online media training course for Indian LGBT+ rights activists. The media can play a crucial role in the way in which LGBT+ persons are able to express them, narrate their truths and socialize with ease within the general population.

This innovative training will target LGBT+ activists who will be taken through engaging ways of involving the media. These will include; getting your message delivered concisely, understanding complex audiences, using reactive situations to the movement’s advantage, and understanding integrated communications among other contextual topics.

The intensive four-week workshop, taking place online between 01 – 26 February 2021, will build the capacity of LGBT+ civil society leaders to engage meaningfully with media representatives. The workshop will show participants how to structure a media strategy that will get people on side with their campaign and organization.

Participants will learn how to create a media strategy using different tools such as print media, broadcast and social media.  In parallel, they will be running a training for media practitioners on LGBT+ rights reporting. During the final week of the training, both LGBT+ activists and journalists will come together to attend joint sessions and put their new skills into practice.

This will be an incredible opportunity for LGBT+ civil society leaders from India working within the movement. Applicants for this training must have previously worked with media on a professional capacity and are motivated to work closely with the media to change the narrative on LGBT+ persons.
