The United States Embassy in Brasília is seeking proposals for its project entitled “Media Literacy Access Alumni Camp” to create and implement an American style summer camp focusing on media literacy and journalism for recent graduates of the English Access Microscholarship Program.
This intensive residential camp aims to bring together approximately 30 talented Access students from different Access programs across Brazil. The camp session should focus on effective use of digital and social media tools, cross-cultural understanding, and leadership skills while providing opportunities to improve participants’ English language skills and strengthening their abilities to compete for higher education and job opportunities.
Objectives
During their intensive residential camp experience in a Brazilian city, they would like awarded participants to:
- Plan and design a video project based on a selected global concern that will be explored daily according to the following four-step process of digital and media literacy below:
- Access – find, comprehend and interpret content; gain knowledge and information.
- Analyze – examine the quality of information resources; critically analyze how media messages are constructed.
- Create – compose or create messages in a variety of forms.
- Act – Plan and implement action.
- Build cross-cultural understanding, strategies for conflict resolution, and an appreciation for regional cultural differences in Brazil and the U.S.
- Have opportunities to develop strategies for effective communication, leadership skills and strengthen participants’ abilities to compete for higher education and job opportunities.

Eligibility Criteria
- Eligible Entities
- Applicants who are eligible to apply are U.S. and overseas-based Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs), Public International Organizations (PIOs), Educational Institutions and other qualified organizations who are able to respond to the NOFO and be able to mobilize in a short period of time.
- To be eligible for a grant award, in addition to other conditions of this NOFO, organizations must have a commitment to non‐discrimination with respect to beneficiaries and adherence to equal opportunity employment practices.
