The United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women (UN Women) has announced the Governance and Political Participations: Gender-Sensitive Training for more Inclusive Media Reporting in Afghanistan.
Objectives
UN Women Afghanistan is looking for an international company, or a local company, or an international and a local company, or an international company outsourcing services to either an international or local company to be responsible for:
- Training 34 journalists (70% women, either Afghan citizens or covering Afghanistan) on how to report using gender-sensitive language and how to advocate for the full and equal participation of women in public communication, in English (with simultaneous translation) for 4 days in Afghanistan.
- Increasing the number of journalistic stories that integrate gender issues/ analysis in Afghanistan by providing gender reporting expert support to 34 journalists over a period of 1 month.
- Increasing the gender-sensitive reporting in Afghanistan by creating and curating an online community of practice for journalists over a period of 1 month and a network between trained journalists.
Scope of Work and Specific Tasks
Afghan women are now more than ever shaping the future of their country as powerful agents of change in all areas of society. At UN Women Afghanistan, they believe it is time for the Afghan media to reflect this reality. With the vision of fostering an environment where the interests, experiences and realities of Afghan women become part of the public agenda, UN Women Afghanistan is seeking a partner to:
- train journalists covering Afghanistan how to report using gender-sensitive language and how to advocate for the full and equal participation of women in public communication;
- foster the development of a community of journalists who report on a regular basis stories of Afghan women shaping their country and the world.
Eligibility Criteria
The selected service provider must adhere to the following minimum qualifications:
- Legally constituted company with a valid registration and able to provide evidence of meeting all legal, tax, and other statutory requirements;
- The company must show a clear understanding of the current global media landscape, including photojournalism, videography, but also of traditional forms of journalism like television, radio, print
- The company must have a proven track record in delivering gender-sensitive trainings for media professionals
- The company must have demonstrated professional experience in developing training curriculums
- The main trkiiners/ facilitators should have a minimum of 2 years in delivering gender-sensitive trainings for journalists. CVs of the proposed facilitators to be attached (mandatory).
- Previous working experience in Afghanistan and or with media professionals covering Afghanistan will be considered an asset
- Previous working experience in managing networks of professionals will be considered an asset
- Balance in the composition of team member in terms of gender will be considered an asset
- Previous working experience with UN agencies and/or other international organizations will be considered an asset
- Including journalists as experts in the composition of the company’s team will be considered an asset.
- The company personnel and team members must be fluent in English.
