The Gabo Foundation, in alliance with the Tinker Foundation, has announced the virtual workshop ‘Journalism on education: counting beyond figures’, which will take place on July 5, 6, 7, 12 and 14, 2022.

The workshop will be led by the journalist specialized in education, Antonio Gois, who will share his experience in covering this topic, how to investigate it from different perspectives, how to make more versatile reports and qualify the debate so that education is interesting for the public.

This context suggests a challenge for journalism, which has the task of making visible and explaining the realities of the education sector, including learning gaps, new teaching mechanisms and the needs of vulnerable populations as schools return. to presence. No less important is the coverage of inequality in teacher distribution in lower-income regions and rural areas, as well as alternative methods for national student assessments.

Award Information

At the end of the workshop sessions, five (5) participants will obtain a production grant for an amount of up to $1,200 dollars, to develop the story proposed in the workshop announcement. In addition, they will receive support for two months from two renowned journalists from the Gabo Foundation’s network of experts, who will contribute to strengthening the conception and reporting of the investigation, as well as the production and dissemination of the story.
