The Gabo Foundation, in alliance with the CAF Latin American Development Bank, convenes the virtual workshop ‘Sustainable development: covering the present looking to the future’, which will be held on March 10, 15, 22 and 24, 2023. activity will be led by journalist Gustavo Faleiros (Brazil).
Program Details
- When talking about sustainable development, many times the images that come to mind have to do with international summits, meetings between rulers and signing of agreements that may seem far from everyday life.
- Precisely one of the challenges of journalism is to bring this topic closer to audiences and inquire about the impacts of global phenomena in local contexts, so it is essential to collect, break down, analyze, communicate and promote public conversations about sustainable development, which beyond of the environment is related to issues such as inequality and poverty, to name a few.
- Thus, in this 4-session virtual workshop, tools will be offered to journalists interested in expanding their knowledge about sustainable development and the approach to public and economic policies in Latin America in view of the 2030 agenda, through examples of reporting and journalistic investigation with a focus on data and social, economic and environmental indicators.
Eligibility Criteria
- The workshop is aimed at journalists and editors of communication media in Latin America. Independent journalists who actively collaborate in the media may also participate.
- Through this call, 16 people will be selected.
Selection Criteria
- The applications will be reviewed by the Director of the Journalism Workshop of the Gabo Foundation and the teacher of the workshop, who will take into account the following selection criteria:
- Applicant profile: especially those with journalistic experience in urbanization, economy, innovation and environment issues will be taken into consideration.
- Journalistic project proposal: ideas for journalistic work that propose stories/reports framed in sustainable cities and communities and/or challenges and solutions to achieve sustainable development will be considered.
