The National Indicative Programmes 2014-2020 by the European Commission
The NIPs were developed by the EC in conjunction with the national governments of receiving countries and provide six-year strategic plans (2014-2020) for sustainable development cooperation. Per country, three ‘focal sectors’ were selected that are deemed priority development areas, including the indicative funding amount.
The NIPs provide great policy guidelines for NGOs in need of EU funding for their projects. Not only does the EU clearly formulate the focus areas of intervention, but in greater detail the desired types of intervention.
In general, the NIPs maintain continuity in the sectors where the EU has built successful collaboration and networks and was able to develop a comparative advantage.
This resource guide is a research paper that provides insight into the proposed allocation of funds from the 11th European Development Fund (EDF) by the European Commission (EC). This guide outlines the policy frameworks of the EDF as presented in the National Indicative Programmes (NIPs) for Tanzania, Uganda, Nigeria and Kenya. It does not provide application guidelines on how to access this EC funding.
