Lintel Trust offering Small Grant Fund Programme – UK

#image_title

Deadline: 16-Dec-2025

The National Churches Trust’s is now accepting applications for its Medium Grants to support urgent maintenance, essential repair works, and early-stage project development.

Grants of up to £10,000 are available for projects with total costs of up to £80,000, including VAT and professional fees. This funding is designed to assist churches in tackling immediate repair needs or to help develop future projects up to RIBA planning stage 1, making them ready to approach major grant funders.

This grant programme supports both listed and unlisted churches of any Christian denomination across the UK. It is intended for work that either directly affects the place of worship or an attached structure, and that contributes to the long-term sustainability and function of the building. The grant will never exceed 50% of the net cost of the work included in the application, so applicants must have already secured at least half of the required funds before applying.

To proceed, churches must confirm they are located within the UK, open for at least six public worship services per year, and either own the building or have the legal right to undertake the work. If the church is not part of a major denomination, it must be registered with Churches Together in Britain and Ireland or hold charitable status.

The building must have been originally constructed as a place of worship and be more than 30 years old. It must also be accessible to the public for at least 100 days per year beyond worship services. Projects must not have started before the application is submitted, and applicants are required to provide two quotes for each part of the proposed work.

If the application is for repair works, the project must be overseen by a qualified professional, and listed buildings require a professional with recognised conservation accreditation. This ensures that the work is carried out to high standards and respects the historic or architectural significance of the site.

This grant scheme is an important stepping stone for churches working toward major improvements or in need of critical repairs, offering them the chance to build a strong foundation before applying for larger-scale funding.
