Call for Proposals: Wales Space Cluster Catalyst Fund (UK)

Micro-Grants for Legal Compliance Support for Women-Led/Serving CSOs in Chitral (Pakistan)

Deadline: 24-Oct-2025

The UK Space Agency, in collaboration with Space Wales and the Welsh Government, has launched a funding call aimed at strengthening the space sector in Wales and supporting the delivery of Wales’ space strategy, Wales: A Sustainable Space Nation.

This initiative seeks to build on the nation’s established strengths in space technology, research, and innovation by funding short-term projects that deliver meaningful impact across key areas of the sector.

Wales already hosts world-class businesses, research institutions, and a dynamic innovation ecosystem. Through this grant opportunity, the UK Space Agency aims to enhance these capabilities by promoting collaboration between academia, industry, and government. The funding is designed to support projects that contribute to one of four strategic areas: upstream manufacturing such as materials science, midstream operations including space observation and resilience, downstream applications such as connectivity and earth observation, and skills development to support the future workforce.

A total of £247,000 will be distributed through the Wales Space Cluster Catalyst Fund, with projects scheduled to begin in November 2025 and conclude by the end of March 2026. The fund reflects the UK Government’s ambition to develop one of the world’s most innovative space economies and position the UK as a leading exporter in the sector by 2030. By supporting Welsh organisations, this initiative ensures that regional strengths are fully harnessed to create both local and national impact.

The Wales Space Cluster Catalyst Fund is divided into two tiers of support, each designed to meet the needs of projects at different stages of development. Tier 1, known as Launchpad Cymru, offers funding between £10,000 and £30,000. Tier 2, called Orbit Cymru, provides larger grants ranging from £35,000 to £60,000.

The Welsh space sector has already demonstrated notable growth in areas such as satellite technology, launch support, earth observation, optics and photonics, and environmental sustainability. This funding call is an opportunity to further build on these achievements, empowering organisations of all sizes to deliver projects that strengthen the sector and enhance Wales’ position in the wider UK space ecosystem.

Applicants must meet standard UK Space Agency grant eligibility criteria while also fulfilling additional requirements specific to this scheme. management processes, including attending kick-off meetings, submitting regular progress reports, and participating in review meetings with Space Wales. They will also be required to provide milestone deliverables, evidence of outcomes, and regular updates on benefits and lessons learned.

By providing targeted support and encouraging collaboration across the ecosystem, the Wales Space Cluster Catalyst Fund aims to accelerate innovation, foster growth, and deliver lasting impact for the Welsh space sector. This funding represents a strong commitment to nurturing local expertise while contributing to the UK’s wider ambition of building a globally competitive space industry.
