Submissions open for DEA Programme

Apply for Wellcome Career Development Award Scheme

Deadline: 28-Nov-2025

The DEA Programme offers university professors from around the world the opportunity to carry out research in the humanities and social sciences (HSS) in France during stays of four to six weeks.

Particular consideration is given to applications from countries where funding opportunities for the humanities and social sciences are limited, as well as to scholars for whom a stay in France would provide a significant opportunity to foster scientific collaboration.

Each year, the programme supports up to 30 projects, with a selection rate of approximately 30%. Successful applicants receive a monthly allowance of €3,400 to cover transport and living expenses, along with support for visa applications.

The program is exclusively intended for full university professors or equivalent in higher education and research institutions, and candidates must be under 65 years of age at the time of their stay. Priority is given to projects requiring fieldwork such as surveys, work in libraries or archives in mainland France and the French Overseas Territories. Applications intended solely for writing an article or a book will not be considered.

The evaluation process emphasizes the scientific quality of the project and the method developed, the need to come to France to work on the planned project, and the feasibility of the project during the 4 to 6 weeks stay in France. Once reviewed, applications are assessed by a commission comprising members of the Executive Board, scientific directors of the FMSH, and external specialists. Results will be communicated to applicants at the end of March 2026.

Applicants must submit a single PDF file containing a curriculum vitae of up to four pages (including date of birth), a list of scientific publications, a five to six-page research project with a bibliography, a detailed work plan outlining proposed dates of stay and contacts in France, and a letter of support from a French research laboratory confirming the offer of a place during the stay. Incomplete or non-compliant applications will not be considered.

Submissions are accepted in French or English and must be submitted online no later than November 28, 2025, at 5:00 p.m. (Paris time).
