Applicants are invited to submit an offer for “Organizing Regional Workshop: to Strengthening Science-Policy-Society for Sustainability and Biodiversity Conservation in ASEAN and Asia Pacific Region”.
The regional workshop: Strengthening Science-Policy-Society Interface for Implementing Sustainability Science for Biodiversity Conservation in ASEAN and Asia Pacific Region is being arranged under the project “Science Harnessed for ASEAN Regional Policy” (SHARP) financially assisted by Malaysian Funds-In-Trust, and the project on “Sustainability Transformation Across the Region (STAR)” financially assisted by JapaneseFunds-in-Trust. This activity carried out within the ASEAN-UNESCO Framework Agreement of Cooperation (FAC) and associated Indicative Joint Programme of Action 2014-2018.
The workshop is expected to be held on 19-21 June 2017 in Manila, the Philippines.
Workshop objectives
- To bring the results of SHARP project into ASEAN Member Countries in order to enhance understanding on how sustainability science approach can assist sites, including UNESCO Designated Sites and ASEAN Heritage Parks, in conserving biodiversity specifically and in improving protected areas management generally, by addressing socio-environmental stressors to ensure sustainable economic and social development for more sustainable and resilient future
- To present the final result of STAR project and following with discussion and sharing of successful stories on sustainability science demonstration sites in Asia Pacific region, as well as resources among regional UNESCO programs’ networks to support the delivering of the Agenda 2030 and its SDGs through the UNESCO mandate on Natural Sciences.
- Strengthen the link among UNESCO Designated Sites and ASEAN Heritage Parks
- Produce recommendations in a “Policy Guidelines” paper for enhancing environmental sustainability in UNESCO and ASEAN Heritage Parks sites (a policy paper on sciencepolicy-society interface)”
Eligibility Criteria
The Contractor should have the following qualifications:
- Be a legal organization based in the Philippines
- Have knowledge about UNESCO, its Sustainability Science program and biodiversity
- Have a strong network with the government institutions, universities and NGOs related to biodiversity conservation, sustainability science and research in ASEAN
- Have experience in organizing workshops.
