Deadline: 30-Sep-2025
The North Staffordshire Environment Fund, established as a legacy of the Middleport Environment Charity, is dedicated to supporting community-based organisations in North Staffordshire, including Stoke-on-Trent, Newcastle-under-Lyme, and the Staffordshire Moorlands.
Its core mission is to empower local groups to create projects that deliver positive outcomes for people, nature, and the climate. Applicants are expected to demonstrate how their initiatives will contribute to building a healthier and more environmentally sustainable future, while also committing to share their successes with their local communities and other relevant stakeholders.
The fund offers two tiers of grants to help bring environmental ideas to life. Tier 1 provides up to £500, while Tier 2 offers between £500 and £1,500. To apply for Tier 2, organisations must have been active for at least a year and must show measurable environmental outcomes, such as reductions in carbon emissions, improvements to biodiversity, or savings in energy and water usage. Projects must also provide a lasting legacy and be actively promoted to the local community. Only one application per organisation per round will be considered.
Support is open to community groups, voluntary groups, registered charities, and social enterprises, and applicants do not need to be specifically environmental organisations. However, statutory bodies, public sector organisations, and private companies without charitable aims are not eligible to apply. All projects must benefit residents of the designated North Staffordshire areas.
The types of projects sought are those that mitigate climate change and its impacts, reduce pollution and waste, conserve natural resources, enhance wildlife and biodiversity, encourage sustainable practices, or build resilience to the effects of a changing climate. Eligible expenses include equipment, capital investments, training, project delivery, and event costs, while core organisational running costs, religious or political activities are excluded.
By funding local initiatives, the North Staffordshire Environment Fund aims to inspire practical, community-driven solutions that protect the environment, support local people, and leave a lasting positive impact on the region.
