The Thomas Wall Trust supports initiatives that enhance communication skills as a means to improve employment prospects, self-confidence, and life opportunities for disadvantaged adults.
The focus areas of the Trust are to improve communication skills for disadvantaged adults and support NEET people into employment. The Trust believes that communication skills are critical capabilities for people who want to improve their employment prospects, self-confidence, resilience, and life chances. It recognises that communication is underpinned by a set of key features and skills such as empathy, listening, emotional intelligence, confidence and clarity amongst others. It is an inclusive charity welcoming proposals which target people experiencing multiple deprivation or other groups demonstrably facing major hurdles to employment especially women, people with physical, mental, or learning disabilities and refugees.
The Thomas Wall Trust provides grants of up to £5,000 to fund specific projects designed to enhance communication skills rather than general organisational expenses. These projects must aim to empower disadvantaged adults by equipping them with essential communication abilities that contribute to their personal growth and career development. Importantly, beneficiaries of these funded projects are expected to gain at least one accredited vocational qualification during the delivery period or within two months after the project’s completion, ensuring measurable impact and sustainability.
To ensure a fair and transparent process, applications are conducted in two stages. In Stage One, applicants are required to complete an Expression of Interest form, providing basic contact details and a brief description of their funding requirements. Successful candidates from this initial phase are then invited to Stage Two, where they must submit a detailed Project Plan including budget information, the latest set of audited financial accounts, and any relevant policies.
This approach enables the Trust to identify and support organisations that share its vision of creating lasting change through skill development and empowerment. By focusing on communication as a foundational skill, the Thomas Wall Trust continues to strengthen pathways to employment and inclusion for those facing the greatest challenges.
