Deadline: 06-Sep-20
UN Women recognizes youth engagement and their meaningful participation as central to the human rights-based approach to advocacy.
The youth engagement and advocacy are also part of the process of empowering young people as rights-holders to demand their rights by creating an environment where they can both voice their concerns, ideas, and recommendations and be heard by decision-makers and duty-bearers.
UN Women is mobilizing young feminist and gender equality advocates from around the world, to amplify the voice, agency, and leadership of young women at the local, country, regional, and global levels. These gender youth activists are leaders and influencers working with key stakeholders to create the change they want to see in the world. They are not necessarily already involved at the national and international platforms but working together with their peers on the achievement of gender equality and the empowerment of women and girls.
UN Women Nepal will nominate five youth gender activists from Nepal who will drive the local youth mobilization for UN Women’s Generation Equality Campaign at the global level and beyond by:
- Building on the work of previous generations address the increased polarization of gender equality while creating bridges between communities.
- Bringing energy, creativity, and critical thinking to challenge the status quo.
- Becoming the next generation of gender equality advocates contributing to a stronger feminist movement.
UN Women will leverage its unique mandate of being able to convene young people and create spaces and opportunities for intergenerational and intersectional dialogues. It will also serve as both a source of support for young people and a platform through which their voices, needs, and power can be communicated and amplified. UN Women will further support the youth gender activists by:
- Amplifying their voice, agency, and leadership at the regional and global levels.
- Getting them to work closely with the Beijing +25 Youth Task Force as they plan for engagement in the regional and global reviews, CSW64, and the Generation Equality Forum in 2020.
