The High Sheriff Youth Awards Scheme, managed by County Durham Community Foundation, makes annual awards in recognition of groups in the community who encourage useful and beneficial pursuits for local young people.
The scheme is supported by Sir James Knott Trust, Durham Constabulary, Office of the Durham Police, Crime & Victims’ Commissione and the current High Sheriff, Mr David Gray of Durham.
Thematic Areas
In 2021 the awards will focus on youth groups who work on three particular themes:
- Supporting young people affected by mental health issues and/or young offenders to help turn their lives around.
- Supporting young people to be upstanding citizens and /or deterred from criminal activities.
- Youth groups who have gone above and beyond to help their local communities during the pandemic.
Award Information
- Award Amount: up to £2,500.
Nomination Procedure
- Who are the awards for?
- Awards are made to voluntary and community groups and registered charities based and working in County Durham, Darlington, Hartlepool and Stockton.
- How do applicants make a nomination?
- Applicants can only nominate their own organisation. If applicants know of an organisation that deserves an award please direct them to the form and ask them to submit their own nomination.
- Applicants will be asked to explain what their organisation does and how it works with its target beneficiary group to overcome obstacles and make meaningful contributions to society.
- All nominations must be completed and submitted through the online system. Nominations received after the deadline will not be considered.
- Please make sure that applicants have the following documents ready to attach to the form:
- Child Protection Policy/Safeguarding Policy;
- Groups most recent signed accounts.
