Applications open for Art Omi Artists Program

Regional Arts Development Fund in Australia

Deadline: 15-Oct-2025

The Art Omi Artists Program invites artists from around the world, representing a wide diversity of artistic styles and practices, to gather for four weeks each summer to experiment, collaborate and share ideas.

Art Omi: Artists nurtures deep creative and professional connections in a vibrant, social residency. Artists are provided with a private bedroom in shared living quarters, a private studio, and three meals a day at no cost, but are responsible for their travel and material expenses, unless they are eligible for travel grants as specified in their fellowships guidelines. Each session, two critics/curators are invited to participate as Critics-in-Residence. They both lead discussions, help shape the Visitors program and make individual studio visits throughout the duration of the residency session.

The program offers artists an immersive residency experience where they can explore their creative practices and build professional networks. Accommodation and meals are covered, allowing artists to focus solely on their work, while engagement with Critics-in-Residence ensures dynamic dialogue and critical engagement. Artists benefit from an environment where cultural exchange and creative exploration thrive together.

Eligibility requires that applicants must not be enrolled in a BFA or MFA program at the time of application. PhD students or professional artists with at least five years of professional experience who are currently enrolled in a master’s degree program other than in the arts are eligible. Art Omi also accepts applications from self-taught professional artists, provided their resume or CV demonstrates at least three years of professional experience as an exhibiting artist. Applications must be submitted in English, including the resume or CV and biography.

For team applications, only one application should be submitted, with one member designated as the contact person. The resume must include the names of all team members, and the application should reflect the team’s collaborative work. One-time collaborators must submit separate individual applications. Applicants must be at least 18 years old at the time of application. Only work created in the past ten years will be considered, and alumni are not eligible to apply again.

Applicants are required to submit a resume or CV reflecting at least five years of demonstrated art practice, a short biography in narrative form, an artist statement, and portfolio materials. Portfolios may include eight images, links to three video excerpts, or a combination of five images and one video. Video excerpts must not exceed one minute each and should be accessible for viewing or download via platforms such as Vimeo or YouTube. Each image or video must be accompanied by a brief description.

The application must be complete and fully adhere to all guidelines, as incomplete submissions will not be processed. The deadline for submissions is October 15, and decision notifications will be announced on Sunday, March 1, 2026. The residency session will take place from Thursday, June 18 to Monday, July 13, 2026.
