The Hult Prize is a start-up accelerator for social entrepreneurship which brings together the brightest college and university students from around the globe to solve the world’s most pressing issues.
Hult Prize@ gives participants an opportunity to bypass the traditional Hult Prize application process and fast tracks your team and idea through to one of five regional final rounds of competition. The program allows more students to compete around the world, leading to more ideas and ultimately more start-ups. Annual Hult Prize winners can make their ideas reality with the help of USD1 million in seed funding.
2016 Hult Prize Challenge Topic
President Bill Clinton announces the 8th Annual 2017 Hult Prize “President’s Challenge” themed “Refugees – Reawakening Human Potential” and will focus on restoring the rights and dignity of people and societies who may be, or are forced into motion due to social injustices, politics, economic pressures, climate change and war.
It will also work to restore the rights and dignity of those currently living in informal / illegal settlements. Its aim is to reach 10M by 2022 and believe young people and their collective wisdom is the only way forward. This challenge was selected by President Bill Clinton and announced at the 2016 Hult Prize Finals and Awards program New York.

- Hult Prize Foundation is estimating the total number of global refugees to be at 1 billion, not the UN and generally accepted number of 60M.

Participation
- University students should team up to create a start-up aimed at solving an issue faced by billions in need; and submit the project.
- The short listed teams will participate at one of the regional final locations and pitch their project.
- A regional champion will be announced and the champion team will receive one year membership into the Clinton Global Initiative and an opportunity to spend the summer at the Hult Prize Accelerator – an innovative incubator for social enterprise.
- These regional champions will pitch their idea in the Global Finals. Global leaders will be selected and awarded the startup capital to implement project.
- The Global Champion will launch the start-up. They will also receive mentoring and advice to work on the social enterprise.
Eligibility Criteria
- Students past or present from any college or university in the world are invited to form teams of 3-4. There are only two conditions:
- All participants must have a connection with the same school
- A maximum of one alumnus who cannot also be a faculty member of the school
- You are considered a student if at the time of application submission, you have not yet graduated.
- While only teams may compete, individuals who cannot form a team but are interested in competing should join the Facebook community to find others individuals who are looking to form teams.
