Applications are open for The Bellagio Arts & Literary Arts Residency Program that is for composers, fiction and non-fiction writers, playwrights, poets, video/filmmakers, dancers, musicians, and visual artists who share in the Foundation’s mission of promoting the well-being of humankind and whose work is inspired by or relates to global or social issues.
The Center has a strong interest in proposals that align with The Rockefeller Foundation’s efforts to promote the well-being of humanity, particularly through issues that have a direct impact on the lives of poor and vulnerable populations around the world. These issues include but are not limited to health, economic opportunity, urban resilience, as well as food and agriculture.
To further strengthen the reach of the program and ensure high geographic and disciplinary diversity among residents, they are also working with a range of new arts organizations to surface promising candidates. They have established outreach collaborations with four organizations: Khoj International Artists’ Association in Delhi, Fundacion Jumex in Mexico City, Africa Centre in Cape Town, and United States Artists in Chicago. These collaborations will extend our networks to attract a greater number of geographically diverse, highly distinguished artists working in Asia, Latin America, Africa and the United States.
Benefits
Room and board are provided to all residents and their spouses/partners. Airfare is not included in the residency program; however, the foundation does have a limited travel assistance program based on the income of invited residents.
Selection Criteria
Bellagio Center Residency Applications are evaluated in three main areas:
- The professional qualifications and achievements of the applicant: Successful applicants demonstrate significant professional contributions to their field over the course of their career or show evidence of being on a strong upward professional trajectory.
- The quality and theme of the proposed project: Successful applicants apply to work on projects that will introduce new thinking and knowledge to their field of study. Projects that are aligned with and will inform the discourse around the Rockefeller Foundation’s strategic goals are often well suited to Bellagio.
- The suitability of the project for the Bellagio Center: The Bellagio Center must be an appropriate forum for the proposed project. Projects that require special equipment onsite, excursions off the grounds, or access to research libraries are not suited. Successful applicants can clearly articulate how the multi-disciplinary environment of Bellagio will contribute to their work.
