The National Geographic Society is inviting applications for its Early Career Grant which is designed to offer less experienced individuals an opportunity to lead a project.
The National Geographic Society is currently offering Explorers a variety of funding opportunities in the fields of conservation, education, research, storytelling, and technology. All proposed projects must be novel and exploratory, and be of broad interest. National Geographic Society grant-funded projects should be bold, innovative, and transformative.
Funding Information
Projects are typically funded for US $5,000 and cannot exceed US $10,000.

- The Human Journey: The Human Journey focuses on learning more about who we are and what our future is on this planet.
- Wildlife and Wild Places: Wildlife and Wild Places includes projects on all living organisms, where they live, and the local evolutionary and ecological processes that sustain them.
- Our Changing Planet: Our Changing Planet comprises projects looking at a spectacular variety of ever-changing systems on land and in the sea.

Eligibility Criteria
- The Society encourages applications from around the world. If applicants are planning to work outside of their home country, they must include the name and contact information for at least one local collaborator as a project team member in the application.
- There is no maximum age limit for Early Career Grant applicants. However, applicants must be at least 18 years old at the time of application submission.
- The Committee will not usually consider applications that support strictly laboratory or collections work.
- Grants are awarded on the basis of merit and exist independent of the Society’s other divisions.
- Applicants are not required to have an advanced degree. Anyone with more than five years of professional experience in the field of their project focus does not qualify for an Early Career Grant and should apply for an Exploration Grant instead.
- If applicants have previously received an Early Career Grant or a Young Explorers Grant from National Geographic, they may submit a new proposal after they have closed their previous grant record.
- Early Career Grant applicants must also submit a two-minute video that will be used to help evaluate the proposal.
- Please Note: Applicants’ project does not take place in, nor they are a citizens of any restricted countries (mainland China or any comprehensive OFAC-sanctioned countries–North Korea, Cuba, Iran, Syria, southern Sudan, and the Crimea region controlled by Russia).
