The Secretary’s Office of Global Women’s Issues (S/GWI) announces a funding opportunity for a new program entitled “Comprehensive Programming to Address and Respond to Gender-based Violence in Malawi and Tanzania Initiative” with an aim to advance the objectives committed to in the U.S. Strategy to Prevent and Respond to Gender-based Violence Globally (GBV).
The U.S. Department of State seeks proposals from qualified organizations with the capacity to oversee the implementation of third-party sustainable sub-grantees advancing the outcomes and actions committed to by the U.S Department of State in the GBV Strategy and accompanying implementation plans.
Applicants should demonstrate experience in developing partnerships with relevant stakeholders including the public and/or private sector as well as local organizations to design, implement, monitor, and evaluate comprehensive programming that both responds to the needs of women and girls in the target countries, and coordinates with existing efforts currently being implemented by U.S. government, host country, and international and local actors.
Funding Information: The approximate total funding should not exceed to$6,000,000

- The implementation context, including any relevant details on the socio-political environment and the target beneficiaries of the project
- The project’s theory of change, as relevant to the objectives of the Strategy and the guiding documents and strategies mentioned in this solicitation.
Eligibility Criteria
- This announcement is being distributed in coordination with the respective U.S. Embassies to a limited number of international and local non-governmental organizations.
- Project activities must take place outside the United States.
- Applicants may propose work in a single country, or to conduct work in multiple countries.
- This solicitation seeks to fund projects in the following countries:
- Malawi
- Tanzania
- Nonprofits that do not have a 501(c)(3) status with the IRS, other than institutions of higher education
- Nonprofits having a 501(c)(3) status with the IRS, other than institutions of higher education
- Private institutions of higher education
- Public and State controlled institutions of higher education
- Internationally-registered organizations; educational & research organizations; not-for-profits; domestic and foreign non-governmental organizations; and social enterprises.
