The Sahel Economic Forum is an annual conference seeking to provide an intellectual environment to allow the Sahel’s stakeholders (academia, think tanks, policymakers, and donors) to analyze, assess, discuss, and review economic issues pertinent to the development of the Sahel region.
The World Bank and Université Thomas Sankara de Ouagadougou jointly organize this first edition on June 15-16, 2023. The conference’s topic is Social Contract and Socio-Economic Challenges in the Sahel. This topic is particularly relevant to the Sahel region, which is experiencing a combination of food insecurity, armed conflicts, demographic, and climate shocks.
Prize Total
- Selected papers will be published in the special edition of an academic journal, such as The Journal of Modern African Studies or African Affairs.
Terms and Conditions
- By submitting an entry, you will retain the copyright to the entry and agree to grant the World Bank the non-exclusive, perpetual, royalty-free and worldwide permission to use and publicly display, use in printed publications of the World Bank, its social media platforms, its websites, or in any other media with appropriate attribution to you as the copyright owner of the winning entries.
- The World Bank has the sole discretion to use or not use an entry, or to take down an entry already posted to any of its digital channels. For avoidance of doubt, these rights will revert for entries submitted but not selected.
Selection
- Interested authors are invited to submit a detailed abstract or a draft of their paper on the platform by April 30, 2023. Papers will be judged by a scientific committee.
- After the selection process, the scientific committee will contact the selected authors whose papers have been selected by May 15, 2023, via the contact information provided with their submission. Selected papers will be published in the special edition of an academic journal, such as the Journal of Modern African Studies or African Affairs.
Judges
- Papers will be judged by a scientific committee composed of World Bank staff, academia, and researchers.
