An Opportunity for Young Journalists from Russia to Begin and Develop their Career

Greater South Haven Area Community Foundation Grant - U.S.

Deadline: 21 November 2019

The Thomson Reuters Foundation is seeking applications for its program entitled “Higher Education”. This is an opportunity provided by the ‘Tomorrow’s News’ – making the most of digital media program.

The Thomson Reuters Foundation has been inviting journalists from around the world to London and the United Kingdom for over 30 years. They are pleased to offer young journalists from Russia the opportunity to begin and develop their careers to visit the UK in November.

In an increasingly globalized world, Russia and the UK are facing similar challenges, such as the spread of economic inequality, climate change, migration, human trafficking, and modern slavery. The proposed press tours are organized so that representatives of the two countries can share professional knowledge and best practices.

In recent years, the higher education system in the UK has been actively discussed in society: how should the education system be financed, how to strike a balance between competition for attracting the best minds to active debates about immigration, and how does the growing sector comply with standards?

World-class higher education has become a subject of national treasure. The UK, home to four of the top ten universities in the world, numerous leading world research centers and development organizations, prestigious colleges, is ready to take a leading role in this global industry.

The upcoming tour will focus on the challenges and opportunities of this sector, providing journalists with starting points in exploring the global ecosystem of higher education.

A rich 5-day visit includes meetings with experts and sources of information, interaction with other journalists and government officials working in this field.

This tour also contains hands-on workshops to strengthen journalism skills offered by the Foundation around the world to help participants create content that meets international media standards. At the end of the tour, a Thomson Reuters Foundation certificate is issued.

Existing journalists interested in professional development are invited to participate. Participants are expected to work on creating and publishing journalistic materials during and after the tour in London.
