Funding available for International Skills Partnership with Tanzania (UK)

Call for Applications: The Sweden-Estonia Cooperation Fund 2023

Deadline: 22-Sep-2025

The British Council is inviting qualified UK further education colleges or training organisations interested in expanding their international reach to apply for a new partnership opportunity. This initiative aims to help build networks and develop institutional capacity for working globally.

The selected UK-based organisation will enter an International Skills Partnership with peers in Tanzania. The collaboration will involve three Tanzanian TVET centres, including one in Zanzibar, and key national stakeholders such as the Tanzanian Ministry of Education, Science and Technology, and the Vocational Education and Training Authority.

The focus of the partnership will be on promoting sustainable tourism. Partners from both countries will share expertise in engaging employers and integrating entrepreneurship skills into the tourism curriculum. This exchange of knowledge is intended to strengthen TVET systems and make training more aligned with industry needs.

Successful applicants will receive a grant of £30,000 to support partnership activities. This funding can be used for travel between the UK and Tanzania, staff involvement (limited to 30% of the grant), and the development of learning tools and resources. The project is expected to run for 12 months starting from the end of September 2025.

The program aims to establish an active network of employers and skills stakeholders, improve the understanding of effective skills development methods, and better prepare young people for employment. It also seeks to increase awareness of international collaboration, implement new skills development approaches at both the institutional and national levels, and align training more closely with industry demands.

Each proposal must include a UK-based lead institution, which can be a listed further education college, an independent training provider, a membership organisation in the TVET or further education sector, a sector skills body, or an awarding body.

Proposals may also include associated partners such as employer organisations, education charities, NGOs, public or private institutions involved in the TVET sector, government bodies, civil society organisations, and social enterprises. However, for-profit non-education organisations are not eligible to receive grant funding, except for travel-related expenses.
