Funding available for Public Engagement with Science Organisations (UK)

Join the First Global Startup Accelerator Program in Okinawa

Deadline: 01-Sep-2025

The Wolfson Foundation supports organisations with significant scientific or natural history collections to improve public engagement with science through projects related to the history of science. They typically award grants for refurbishing or creating new galleries and sometimes for education and learning spaces.

The foundation aims to increase visitor numbers and engage new audiences. They also seek to improve the educational experience and understanding of science, as well as enhance the future sustainability of the organisation.

Grants usually range from £250,000 to £750,000, with a minimum amount of £100,000.

Projects ineligible for funding include the purchase of land or existing buildings (including freehold), grants to individuals or through conduit organisations, and overheads, maintenance costs, or VAT. Non-specific appeals, endowment funds, and costs related to meetings, exhibitions, concerts, expeditions, conferences, or lectures are also excluded.

Salary costs, running costs such as vehicle fuel and maintenance, film, websites, promotional materials, loan repayments, and projects already completed or due to be completed by the time of award are not eligible.

To be eligible, your organisation should be operated by a registered charity or local authority. It must display scientific or natural history collections of national significance and be fully accredited under the Museum Accreditation Scheme, if applicable.
