Do you want to be part of the solution to the climate change challenge? Do you want to expand your business by contributing to nature-based solutions? Do you have great ideas but not enough resources to make them a reality? Then, apply for the Climate Innovation Fund.
On behalf of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development, the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) launches the Climate Innovation Fund to award innovative ideas that will help improve the conservation and sustainable use of natural resources in Ethiopia.
They are looking for innovations that will:
- Increase the sustainable use of natural resources,
- Create job opportunities through the use of biodiversity, and
- Help restore degraded landscapes.
Funding Information
- GIZ will contribute up to EUR 50,000 worth of investments and requires matching contributions from the winners. The costs matched by the private sector partner can be provided in monetary terms or in-kind.
Benefits
- Benefits for selected projects Partial or total funding of the project idea for 12 months. Projects may be eligible for an extension, with a maximum extension of up to 18 months based on achieved results. Visibility and promotion of the projects in national and social media.
- Support in the further development and up-scaling of selected projects.
Who can participate?
The call targets, start-ups, producer organizations, processors, exporters, traders and other small or medium enterprises that wish to innovate and contribute to a better world. They invite start-ups and small or medium businesses coming from any sector relevant to the objectives mentioned above. Examples of such sectors are:
- Start-ups in the information technology sector (e.g. App development)
- Food production and processing
- Cosmetics
- Pharmaceutical
- Timber
Eligibility Criteria
Project concepts of Companies and Consortia – or Consortia in preparation – coming from relevant sectors, and meeting the following criteria are eligible for participating in the Call for Proposals
Ethiopian Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs):
- At least two audited annual financial statements available.
- At least EUR 500.000 annual turnover.
- At least eight employees.
Sufficient financial stability and liquidity to provide the necessary own contribution Ethiopian Start-ups:
- That are under 2 years old and have raised under EUR 250.000.
- That are registered in Ethiopia.
- Sufficient financial stability and liquidity to provide the necessary own contribution.
- The application can also be made by two or more entities, where both applicants are private sector entities or by one entity in the case of a government organization /research institutions. Where the application is made by two or more entities, one company shall take the lead in the implementation of this contract. The minimum criteria have to be met by the lead applicant.
