Artist Protection Fund: Providing Fellowship Grants to Threatened Artists from around the World

Hungary: Student Artist in Residence

Deadline: 1 December 2016

The Institute of International Education (IIE) together with Andrew W. Mellon Foundation is currently inviting artists and arts organizations, for its Artist Protection Fund (APF), a three-year pilot program, making life-saving fellowship grants to threatened artists from around the world, and place them at host universities and arts centers in safe countries where they can continue their work.

Any threat of persecution or violence due to an artist’s practice, identity, or beliefs would qualify fo this program. This includes intimidation, harassment, repression, censorship, unjust punishment and violence arising out of an artist’s work, and/or exercise of her/his fundamental human rights. APF may also make a limited number of awards to artists facing general insecurity, instability, or civil conflict that affects the whole population of a country or region.

With funding from the Mellon Foundation and with the participation of many arts organizations from around the world, IIE developed the Artist Protection Fund to fill a critical unmet need to provide relief and safe haven to artists on a large scale and for extended periods.
