Climate Tracker is looking for four fellows from Africa who will join the global team of journalists to cover the global climate summit in-person and virtually from November 30, 2023 – December 12, 2023.

- Climate Tracker (CT) believes that young journalists are critical influencers in the global climate debate. The climate crisis is a global communications challenge that needs to be told with local audiences in mind. Investing in young journalists to tell accurate, informative, human stories, is one of the most powerful tools in shaping the global climate debate. It is also an investment that can help shape national climate conversations for years to come.
- Focus On Journalists In Under Resourced Geographies
- Climate change is a global issue, and many journalists and newsrooms report on it incredibly well. However, there are too many powerful stories being untold, and too many young journalists who don’t receive the support they deserve. The fellowships and training is most valuable in languages and geographies where this kind of support isn’t easy to find.

- Support Better Climate Stories
- The work is always focussed on supporting better stories for local audiences. To do that, they need to be able to better understand national media trends and support powerful local journalists to tell stories that resonate. Supporting better climate stories, also means supporting a broader range of storytellers.
- Focus On Journalists In Under Resourced Geographies
What is the opportunity?
- In-person fellowship: Two fellows will travel and report on-site from Dubai. This will be fully funded including flight ticket bookings, accommodations and stipend. You also get the opportunity to live and work with a diverse team of journalists from around the world.
- Online fellowship: Two journalists will be selected for the online fellowship and will have the opportunity to report from their home countries. You will receive adequate guidance from the global team of mentors who will guide your reporting process every step of the way. You will also get the privilege of getting paid to write during the period of the fellowship.
- Haven’t reported on COP before? Not to worry, Climate Tracker will organise a series of webinars and training sessions ahead of the conference to get you adequately prepared for the job ahead.

- To start you off on putting your application together, they will be organising two webinars:
- Energy Transition in Africa: Date: July 17, 2023
- Energy Poverty in Africa: Date: July 24, 2023.
- What you need to do now: To be considered for this opportunity, Climate Tracker expects you to write and publish a story on your national media that highlights how challenging the energy transition can be, and those at risk of being left behind.
