Grants for Implementation of Findings From PCORI’s Research Investments (US)

Submit Applications for Small Research Grant Program 2025 (Indonesia)

Deadline: 23-Sep-2025

The Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute’s Cycle 3 2025 Open Competition invites investigators to transform rigorous, peer-reviewed findings from high-priority PCORI-funded comparative clinical effectiveness research into real-world impact.

The goal is to bridge the gap between evidence generation and healthcare delivery by supporting projects that actively implement proven findings to improve clinical practice and health outcomes. Applicants may propose implementation initiatives that scale evidence-based solutions into healthcare practice, bringing measurable benefits to patients and communities.

This is a truly open call: applicants need not have been involved in the original research and do not require prior PCORI funding to apply. That ensures a wide and diverse pool of implementation-focused teams can contribute their expertise toward bringing evidence into broader use. For Cycle 3 2025, PCORI has identified three specific areas of eligible evidence: therapies and medicines to reduce or eliminate symptoms for people with post-traumatic stress disorder, appropriate antibiotic prescribing for children with acute respiratory tract infections, and approaches for addressing uncontrolled hypertension in adults. These areas were selected because of their strong evidence base and potential to improve patient outcomes if effectively implemented.

Funding for this opportunity is significant, with a maximum project budget of up to $2.5 million in direct costs and a maximum project period of up to four years. PCORI has committed approximately $8 million in total funding under this announcement. These resources are intended to provide applicants with the scope needed to design thoughtful, well-resourced implementation projects capable of effecting sustainable change in clinical practice.

Applicant eligibility is broad to encourage innovation and reach. Applications may be submitted by nonprofit and for-profit organizations, with U.S.-based applicants required to hold a Federal Employer Identification Number and demonstrate their ability to comply with PCORI’s standard funding agreements. Foreign organizations and nondomestic components of U.S. organizations may also apply, but must clearly demonstrate how their projects will benefit the U.S. healthcare system and include U.S. patients and stakeholders in their engagement plans. Individual applicants are not eligible to apply.

By focusing on eligible evidence from prior PCORI-funded research, this funding announcement ensures that projects are grounded in proven findings. Applicants are encouraged to bring forward diverse expertise, including implementation science, stakeholder engagement, and clinical practice transformation, to maximize the reach and relevance of their initiatives. The open competition model allows for new organizations and partnerships to enter the field and drive impact.

This initiative represents a pivotal moment for implementation science within comparative effectiveness research, offering the resources and flexibility to ensure that PCORI-funded findings do not remain confined to academic publications but instead become part of routine practice, ultimately improving health outcomes across the U.S. healthcare system.
