Thomson Reuters Foundation and the Asian Development Bank are organizing an online training program in Russian for journalists from the Asia-Pacific region to help them more accurately and efficiently cover the full range of problems of socio-economic development, and especially the COVID pandemic-19, immunization and vaccination.
The program will also provide participants with data analysis and visualization skills to help create more engaging and accessible content and communicate facts and figures clearly and accurately.
The training program is designed for five days, four hours a day. Also during the program, participants will conduct independent research and work in groups online.
Following a successful training in English in August, this training in Russian is scheduled for September 20-24, 2021 and will be led by the Thomson Reuters Foundation’s experienced trainers Anatoly Verbin and Ilya Kachaev, former Reuters reporters with significant experience in region. COVID -19.
In particular, this training will help journalists:
- Improve understanding of the impact of the pandemic on the world, countries and people’s lives from the point of view of the health system, science, economy, business and public life
- To deepen scientific knowledge about COVID -19 virus , immunization and vaccination
- Understand the reasons for vaccine mistrust and unfair vaccine distribution
- Learn to apply Reuters journalism principles to create accurate, objective, and understandable stories about the pandemic for target audiences
- Prepare an editorial response to disinformation and dissemination of false information
- Get access to industry experts to generate material ideas and improve technical skills
- Prepare material proposals for national and international media
- Improve pandemic data collection and visualization skills.
Participants who successfully complete the training will receive a certificate from the Thomson Reuters Foundation and the Asian Development Bank.
Eligibility Criteria
- This program will be held in Russian and open to Russian-speaking candidates from developing countries where the Asian Development Bank operates: Afghanistan, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Cambodia, Cook Islands, People’s Republic of China, Fiji, Georgia, India, Indonesia, Kazakhstan, Kiribati, Kyrgyz Republic, Lao People’s Democratic Republic, Malaysia, Maldives, Marshall Islands, Federated States of Micronesia, Mongolia, Myanmar, Nauru, Nepal, Niue, Pakistan, Palau, Papua New Guinea, Philippines, Samoa, Solomon Islands, Sri Lanka, Tajikistan, Thailand, Timor-Leste, Tonga, Turkmenistan, Tuvalu, Uzbekistan, Vanuatu and Vietnam.
- Applicants must confirm their intention to develop a career as a journalist in their home country, have at least two years of work experience and a good level of oral and written Russian language skills.
- Out-of-state journalists should also have significant media experience, including recent media coverage.
- Applicants must have access to a stable internet connection that will allow them to participate in video conferencing within a few hours. They must also have a computer to participate in the training.
