Wellcome Foundation is currently seeking applications for its Training Fellowships in Public Health and Tropical Medicine with an aim to support research that will improve public health and tropical medicine at a local, national and global level.
This scheme offers research experience and training to early-stage researchers from low- and middle-income countries.

Benefits
- A Training Fellowship in Public Health and Tropical Medicine is normally for three years, and can be held on a part-time basis. The fellowship can be for up to four years if applicant want to do Master’s training or a diploma course relevant to the research proposal. The support includes:
- a basic salary (determined by host organisation)
- personal removal expenses
- research expenses, directly related to proposal
- course fees – in most cases, applicant must register for his/her higher degree at a local academic organisation
- Applicant can also apply for public engagement funds to involve the public in his/her research and inspire learning.
Eligibility Criteria
- Applicants can apply for Training Fellowships in Public Health and Tropical Medicine if they:
- are a national of a low- or middle-income country
- have a degree in a subject relevant to public health or tropical medicine. Or he/she have a degree in medicine and are qualified to enter higher specialist training
- have some initial research experience.
- Applicant is expected to register for a PhD if he/she awarded this fellowship. Applicant may also apply if he/she have a PhD and no more than three years’ postdoctoral experience. Applicant must also:
- have sponsorship from an eligible host organisation in a low- or middle-income country
- have a research proposal that is within the public health and tropical medicine remit.
- If applicant have been away from research (eg for a career break, maternity leave, or long-term sick leave), foundation will allow for this when they consider applicants application. If applicant has taken formal maternity, paternity, adoption or long-term sick leave, foundation will allow an extra six months for each period of leave when foundation consider the postdoctoral experience.
