$40,000 grant support for New Zealand Artist to Live and Work in Berlin

Berlin Visual Arts Residency 2020 will support a New Zealand artist to live and work in Berlin at the Künstlerhaus Bethanien for up to twelve months from October 2020.

This biennial residency in Berlin was established in 1999 to enable a New Zealand visual artist to work on an approved project and undertake professional development opportunities.

Funding Information

The residency provides:

  1. a stipend of NZD $40,000 for the twelve month residency to be used for living and material costs, travel to Berlin and insurance;
  2. a one-bedroom 60sqm apartment in the district of Friedrichshain in former East Berlin;
  3. the Künstlerhaus Bethanien studio and administration fee, which includes a contribution towards the costs of an exhibition, its promotion and a publication.

  1. Applicants project or activities must directly benefit New Zealand arts, artists or practitioners.
  2. Applicant must have a track record of experience and success — this means you must have:
    • recognition from peers or experts;
    • achieved a degree of critical or sales success;
    • specialised training or practical experience.
