The Pillars Fund is now accepting new ideas for their 2023 Catalyze Fund grants to support work across three focus areas: reimagining public safety, promoting mental health and wellness, and building civic power.
- Reimagining public safety – Work that strives to end the unjust criminalization of Muslim communities. This includes issues like mass surveillance, racial and religious profiling, immigrant detention and deportation, prisoners’ rights, and money bail.
- Promoting mental health and wellness – Work to build mental healthcare systems that better serve Muslim communities and to reimagine what healing for Muslims can look like. This does not include direct service (health clinics, therapy groups, etc.), but instead focuses on initiatives conducting research, awareness, education, and coalition-building.
- Building civic power – Work that supports Muslim leaders who are organizing communities, creating relevant civic media, training potential political candidates, mobilizing voters, and ultimately transforming our democracy to one that serves us all.
Pillars invests in a vibrant network of Muslim-led organizations and efforts developing thoughtful, multidisciplinary approaches to inequity and injustice. Our Catalyze Fund grants support work across three focus areas: reimagining public safety, promoting mental health and wellness, and building civic power.
Funding Information
These grants are one-year awards of around $25,000.
Grant Types
There are two types of Catalyze Fund grants: general operating grants and program/project grants. Most Catalyze Fund grants are general operating grants, which can cover things like staff salaries and facilities expenses or be spread across several programs; organizations given these grants have full discretion over how their award dollars are spent. Program- or project-based grants can be used only for the specific program for which you applied. The grant type will be determined during the full proposal phase of the process.
Eligibility Criteria
- Organizations must have 501(c)(3) status or be sponsored by a fiscal agent with 501(c)(3) status.
- Funding is only available to organizations and projects based in the United States and that are serving populations living in the U.S.

In your submission, Pillars is looking for evidence of:
- Bold ideas offering solutions that positively transform Muslim communities and create new pathways for other Muslim leaders, programs, organizations, and community members
- Alignment with Pillars’ mission, vision, and values
- Alignment with one of Pillars’ three focus areas: reimagining public safety, promoting mental health and wellness, or building civic power
- Emphasis on Muslim leadership in the organization or programming
- Effective and trustworthy leadership
