The Architectural Heritage Fund is seeking applications for its grant program to support people, communities and organisations to take ownership, repair and adapt historic buildings and places for new sustainable uses.
The AHF is a registered charity, working since 1976 to promote the conservation and sustainable re-use of historic buildings for the benefit of communities across the UK.
Objectives
- To support people, communities and organisations to take ownership, repair and adapt historic buildings and places for new sustainable uses.
- To attract more investment for the conservation and sustainable re-use of the UK’s architectural heritage.
- To inspire the start up and growth of new community enterprises that utilise historic buildings and places for public benefit.
- To demonstrate the value of a well-managed historic environment by championing and showcasing the impact of the projects they have supported.
Types of Grants
- Project Viability Grant (PVG): Maximum £5,000- Project Viability Grants (PVG) are to fund studies to look at potential uses for a building and at its current condition, and produce a Viability Report to a standard template.
- Project Development Grant (PDG): Maximum £25,000- The Project Development Grant (PDG) scheme is intended to assist an organisation to cover some of the costs of developing and co-ordinating a project and taking it towards the start of work on site.
Funding Information
Applications for grants of up to £5,000 can be made at any time and the foundation’s aim to give applicants a decision within 6 weeks. Applications for more than £5,000 are considered by their Grants Panel at their quarterly meetings.
Funding priorities
- Heritage need: The foundation will give priority to projects involving historic buildings that have statutory protection and at risk.
- Social Impact: The foundation will give priority to projects that have the potential to make a significant positive social impact, particularly (but not exclusively) in disadvantaged areas.
Eligibility Criteria
- To apply applicants must be a formally constituted charity or social enterprise whose members have limited liability. [For Project Viability Grants, they will accept applications from unincorporated organisations or those in the process of being established. For other grants they would normally expect applicant to be incorporated. Advice on appropriate legal forms and governance models for voluntary sector organisations can be included as an eligible cost as part of the viability appraisal].
- Private individuals, and local authorities are not eligible for their funds. Projects that involve buildings where the primary use is worship, or where the funds are required for capital works are not eligible.
- All applications must concern projects that have recently involved or will result in a change of ownership and/or a change of use. The development work they fund should enable applicants to make measurable progress towards the goal of acquiring an historic building and/or adapting it for a new use.
