Applications Open for Strategic Planning in Southeast Asia

IDRC: Joint Canada-Israel Health Research Program Phase II

Deadline: 19-Jul-21

The Centers for Disease Control has announced the applications for Strategic Planning in Southeast Asia to support the mission and goals of CDC’s global health regionalization strategy and advance global health security.

To date, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has launched four regional platforms: South America, based in Brasilia, Brazil; Eastern Europe/Central Asia, based in Tbilisi, Georgia; Middle East/North Africa, based in Muscat, Oman, and Southeast Asia, based in Hanoi, Vietnam. This Notice of Funding Opportunity (NOFO) is specific to the Southeast Asia Region and includes the following countries: Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar (Burma), Philippines, Papua New Guinea, Thailand, Singapore, and Vietnam.

The Southeast Asia region has a long history of working on health security issues because of significant experiences with emerging infectious diseases. The CDC Southeast Asia regional office will be a trusted technical partner well-known to the individual countries and can serve as convener to strengthen the regional relationships, especially those coordinated through the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) . The Southeast Asia regional office will work to further development and strengthening of ASEAN networks including Emergency Operations Centers (EOCs), the Field Epidemiology Training Network, One Health, laboratory, and Infection Prevention and Control/Antimicrobial Resistance (IPC/AMR).

Purposes

This NOFO supports the mission and goals of CDC’s global regionalization strategy through support for complex high-level regional strategic planning processes. This NOFO will support this objective by working across countries in the region to improve capacity to prevent, detect, and respond to public health threats. Strategic planning across countries will identify gaps and opportunities to improve public health throughout the region, including in the areas of surveillance and reporting, workforce development, lab science, and emergency and outbreak response.

Priorities
