Applications are open for Leading the Pacific Scholarship 2019 which is an initiative designed to ensure that outstanding young people from the Pacific region are represented at the One Young World Summit 2019 in London.
Across the entire Pacific region, environmental issues dominate the agenda. Locally, communities are struggling against challenges of waste management, deforestation, overfishing, and the after-effects of nuclear testing. These threats will soon render many of the Pacific Islands uninhabitable, but the regions receive negligible coverage in the global news. Leaders have struggled to connect this diverse collection of islands, but Pacific societies have prospered within their remote locations and have the potential to unite and drive change within the region.
Benefits
Leading The Pacific Scholarship sponsorship pay for:
- Access to the One Young World Summit 2019 in London, the United Kingdom.
- Hotel accommodation on a shared basis between 22 October and 25 October 2018.
- Catering which includes breakfast, lunch and dinner.
- Transport between the Summit accommodation and the Summit venue.
- Summit hand-outs and support materials.
- The cost of travel to and from London. Your flight to and from London must depart from and return to one and the same international airport.
Eligibility Criteria
Applicants are eligible for sponsorship if applicants:
- Are applicants over 18?
- Have an evidenced commitment ot delivering positive change
- Demonstrate capacity for leadership
- Are addressing key local and/or global issues in they work
- Are a national (passport holding citizen) of one of the countries listed below:
- Australia, Fiji, Kiribati, Marshall Islands, Micronesia, Federated States of, Nauru, New Zealand, Palau, Papua New Guinea, Samoa, Solomon Islands, Timor-Leste, Tonga, Tuvalu, Vanuatu.
Selection Process
The strongest applicants will be shortlisted by the end of May. Applicant will be contacted individually by a member of the One Young World team if applicant have been shortlisted. Please note:
- They cannot guarantee any applicant that they will be shortlisted or that they will secure sponsorship for any shortlisted applicant.
- Priority will be given to applicants from countries that have been less represented at previous One Young World Summits.
- Due to the overwhelming amount of applications they receive, One Young World is unable to respond to individual emails enquiring about the outcome of the Leading The Pacific selection process.
- They do not provide feedback as to why candidates are not selected.
