Fanak Fund is launching the General Fund for Artistic and Cultural Mobility in the region encompassing Europe, the Arab-speaking countries, and the wider Middle East.

­Fanak Fund man­ages a Fund for Artis­tic and Cul­tur­al Mo­bil­i­ty in the Euro-Arab-speak­ing-Mid­dle East re­gion and from this re­gion to the rest of the world. Artists and cul­tur­al op­er­a­tors liv­ing and work­ing in Eu­rope, the Arab-speak­ing world and the Mid­dle East can ap­ply if a call is open. Pri­or­i­ty is giv­en to mo­bil­i­ty from the South and East of this re­gion.

Priorities

The Fanak Fund se­lec­tion com­mit­tee will take in con­sid­er­a­tion the fol­low­ing pri­or­i­ties:

• Trav­el must take into ac­count the in­ter­na­tion­al trans­port re­stric­tions in the coun­try of de­par­ture and in the coun­try of des­ti­na­tion. Since the na­ture and length of these re­stric­tions vary from one coun­try to an­oth­er and are of­ten up­dat­ed, they ad­vise ap­pli­cants to keep their choice of trav­el dates flex­i­ble.
• The aim of your trip must di­rect­ly or in­di­rect­ly con­tribute to sus­tain­able, lo­cal cul­tur­al and artis­tic de­vel­op­ment.
• Applicant’s profile:
  • Nationality: no nationality criteria
  • Age: no age criteria
  • Profession: artists and cultural operators.
• Applications must be made by in­di­vid­u­als and not by organisations. Ap­pli­cants must choose the cheap­est form of trans­port and can only ap­ply for one in­ter­na­tion­al re­turn trav­el tick­et, PCR tests, visa and in­sur­ance costs (lo­cal trans­port, per diems and ac­com­mo­da­tion are not cov­ered by this fund).

Eligibility Criteria

If you would like to ap­ply for a Fanak Fund trav­el grant you must re­spect the fol­low­ing cri­te­ria.

• You must make an in­di­vid­ual re­quest, writ­ten and sent by your­self. Re­quests sent by an or­gan­i­sa­tion will not be ac­cept­ed. Trav­el grants are al­lo­cat­ed to in­di­vid­u­als trav­el­ing alone or with­in a col­lec­tive.
• Na­tion­al­i­ty is not an el­i­gi­bil­i­ty cri­te­ri­on but the can­di­date must be liv­ing and work­ing in the Euro-Arab-Mid­dle East ge­o­graph­i­cal zone.
• There is no age lim­it.
• The can­di­date is un­able to find fund­ing for his or her trav­el.
• Fanak Fund will ex­am­ine spe­cial cas­es (ad­di­tion­al cost for ac­com­pa­ny­ing per­son…). In this case please con­tact the Fund by email.
• Ap­pli­cants must be artists (per­former, cre­ator, teacher) or op­er­a­tors work­ing in the cul­tur­al sec­tor (or­gan­is­er, ad­min­is­tra­tor, project man­ag­er).
• The trip must take place AF­TER the open­ing date of the call. Bear in mind, that if you trav­el be­fore the se­lec­tion date (which is gen­er­al­ly two months af­ter the end of the call), you will not yet know if your grant is al­lo­cat­ed or not when you buy your tick­et. They ad­vise you to plan trav­el three to six months in ad­vance if pos­si­ble.
• The aim of the can­di­date’s trip must be one of the fol­low­ing:
  • Pre­pare a project.
  • ­Take part in a res­i­den­cy.
  • ­Take part in a meet­ing of artists and pro­fes­sion­als with the aim of net­work­ing or en­cour­ag­ing links be­tween cul­tur­al, artis­tic and de­vel­op­ment ac­tors through­out the re­gion.
  • Artis­tic train­ing (mas­ter class­es, work­shops …) or pro­fes­sion­al train­ing (cul­tur­al pol­i­cy, cul­tur­al man­age­ment) ei­ther as a trainee or as a teacher.
  • ­Take part in de­bates, con­fer­ences and sem­i­nars.
• The pro­gramme is open to the fol­low­ing artis­tic and cul­tur­al fields, ei­ther with­in trans­dis­ci­pli­nary or monodis­ci­pli­nary projects.
  • Con­tem­po­rary live arts: new the­atri­cal forms, new writ­ing for the­atre, dra­ma, con­tem­po­rary dance, cir­cus, street per­for­mances in situ, pup­pet the­atre, all mu­sic projects and in­ter-dis­ci­pli­nary projects.
  • Vi­su­al arts in­clud­ing pho­tog­ra­phy, film, dig­i­tal arts and video arts.
  • Lit­er­a­ture: trav­el for au­thors’ meet­ings, writ­ing work­shops, po­et­ry…
  • Ar­chi­tec­ture, De­sign, Fash­ion, Crafts.
  • Cul­tur­al projects.
• The trip must con­tribute to cul­tur­al de­vel­op­ment at lo­cal lev­el and the eman­ci­pa­tion of pop­u­la­tions in the coun­tries of des­ti­na­tion or de­par­ture. The can­di­date must de­vel­op lo­cal ini­tia­tives on his/her re­turn that con­tribute to the cul­tur­al dy­namism of his or her own coun­try or re­gion. They must be com­mit­ted to trans­mit­ting the ben­e­fits of their ex­pe­ri­ence abroad to the oth­er artists and op­er­a­tors in their re­gion in a net­work­ing fash­ion.
• The el­i­gi­ble di­rec­tions of mo­bil­i­ty are as fol­lows:
  • Arab-speak­ing coun­tries, Mid­dle East > Arab-speak­ing coun­tries, Mid­dle East
  • Arab-speak­ing coun­tries, Mid­dle East > Mem­ber States of the Coun­cil of Eu­rope
  • Mem­ber States of the Coun­cil of Eu­rope > Arab-speak­ing coun­tries, Mid­dle East
  • In cer­tain cas­es, Fanak Fund can sup­port trav­el to glob­al des­ti­na­tions from the Arab-speak­ing coun­tries and the Mid­dle-East.
  • ­Trav­el from oth­er con­ti­nents such as the Amer­i­c­as or Asia are not el­i­gi­ble.
• An ap­pli­cant can re­ceive up to 3 trav­el grants, only one grant per call. The of­fice also in­forms the ex­perts on the num­ber of grants that a project or or­gan­i­sa­tion has in­di­rect­ly ben­e­fit­ed from.
• The re­quest must be com­plete.
• Es­ti­ma­tion of trav­el ex­pens­es must be plau­si­ble. Ap­pli­cants who ar­gue the eco­log­i­cal­ly low im­pact of their trav­el (us­ing the train in­stead of the plane for ex­am­ple) will be pri­or­i­tized. If the ap­pli­cant is ap­ply­ing for a road trip, then the re­im­burse­ment will be based on the cost of an equiv­a­lent low-cost air­line tick­et.
