Australian Embassy in Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan is currently accepting applications for its Direct Aid Program (DAP) 2019-20, which is a small grants program that is available on a not-for-profit basis to individuals, community groups and NGOs engaged in development activities in Jordan.
DAP focuses on small-scale development projects that can provide direct benefits to those most in need in the local community.
Priority Sectors and Target Groups
The overarching objective of the DAP program is poverty reduction in Jordan. The DAP program will seek to make interventions in areas that struggle to attract other donor funding. Given that there are a number of vulnerable populations in Jordan (refugees, for example), the DAP program will not be prescriptive with regard to target community. Instead, the DAP Committee will look for projects that contribute to:
- Women’s economic empowerment;
- Human rights;
- Community engagement among young people;
- Enhancing inclusive social services;
- Generating sustainable change.
Funding Eligibility
- Projects that aim to improve development or humanitarian outcomes in Jordan are eligible to apply for funding.
- Activities can run up to a maximum of two years.
- There is no minimum funding that a single DAP project can receive but the maximum is AUD33,000 (approx. JD16,500) for any one project.
Selection Criteria
The Embassy is looking for proposals that:
- Will have an impact in the community that can be measured.
- Can be scaled so that they will reach even more people in future.
- Are sustainable even after DAP funding has finished and are supported by the local community.
- Will be run by a team that has demonstrated capacity.
- Are creative.
As a general rule, they cannot fund the following:
- Routine, recurring and/or running costs including: office rental and utility costs; routine maintenance and repairs (including equipment such as photocopiers, computers, stoves, fridges, etc.); and the purchase of major assets such as property or vehicles..
- Payment of ongoing staff salaries of core organisational staff. Contractor salaries that are part of the actual project can be considered but should not constitute a major cost component.
- Organisations or projects that will make a profit that is not reused in the project, or loans.
Project Proposals
Proposals must have a clear objective and an outcome that can be measured. Where applicants have applied for funding from other possible sources, this must be clearly stated in the application. If the project involves children, please ensure applicants outline the procedures in place to protect them in order to consider their project.
Funding Conditions
All recipients of DAP funds are required to submit progress reports and an acquittal report that provides an accurate assessment of the actual outcomes of the activities (assessed against the anticipated outcomes stated in the application), as well as financial information. Funds must be returned if the project does not proceed. Further information will be provided to successful applicants.
