The Avery-Fuller-Welch Children’s Foundation is seeking applications for its Grant Program to provide grant funding for early intervention and professional guidance to children with physical, behavioral, emotional, and learning challenges.
Originally incorporated in 1914 with bequests from the estates of Mary A. Avery and her brother, Orlando P. Fuller, the Avery-Fuller Children’s Center operated a facility in San Francisco providing aid to handicapped children. The foundation was renamed to honor Whiting Welch for his many years of dedicated service as President of the foundation.
Funding Information
- The foundation provides grants in the range of $3,000-$10,000, with an average of $6,000.
Eligibility Criteria
- Avery-Fuller-Welch Children’s Foundation provides grants that allow low-income families with children in need of supportive, remedial therapy to have access to those professional services.
- Grants are made for:
- Speech Therapy (including devices, such as hearing aids)
- Psychotherapy
- Remedial Education
- Physical and/or Occupational Therapy (including devices that help mobility and functionality)
- Note: The foundation’s focus is on providing grants for treatment/therapy. The foundation will consider payment of assessments for up to $2,500 on a case by case basis, only when it is part of a grant for comprehensive treatment.
- Grants are paid to:
- The service provider/practitioner administering restorative therapy for children (24 years of age or younger) diagnosed with a remedial disability, from low-income families.
- Grant selection is based upon:
- Evidence of a strong motivation in the child, the therapist, and the family. In partnership with the Foundation, the therapist is required to provide a discount on services for the child. Families are encouraged to contribute to the cost if possible.
- Favorable prognosis for achieving independent functioning or significant progress towards the goals set forth within the date parameters of the grant period.
- Inability to pay or obtain full support elsewhere.
- Grants are limited to services provided to residents of the following Bay Area counties:
- Alameda
- Contra Costa
- Marin
- San Francisco
- San Mateo
