Building upon the success of the Keighley Community Health Grants, GiveBradford & Bradford District Care Trust (BDCT) are offering grants to charitable organisations that provide community activities that support the health and wellbeing of local people in the Airedale, Wharfedale and Craven area.
Grants will support Community Organisations who use social prescribing to improve timely access to appropriate health support.
Social prescribing relies on a resilient and active community-led health offer; AWC Community Health Grants will invest in and develop community health solutions, strengthening organisations’ capacity to engage with local GPs and health service commissioners now and in the future. Grants will both support existing community groups to be accessible and sustainable, and help organisations to start new initiatives that work collaboratively with local partners.
Please note: organisations applying for a Development Grant must have been established for at least 2 years with a proven track record in the local area; Only one application per applicant will be considered; Groups in receipt of a 2-year Development Grant from Round 2 of the Keighley Community Health Grants cannot apply for another Development grant but can apply for a Kickstart Grant.
Funding Information
- Kick Start Grants – £500 – £5,000 for up to one year – are for organisations with an idea that meets local health and wellbeing needs and who require support to implement and develop the idea further. Kick Start Grants can be used for pilot projects and start-up costs or to carry out research, set up a feasibility study, access expertise or consultancy, or any other activity that develops the idea.
- Development Grants – £6,000 – £15,000 per year for up to two years – are available to expand and/ or develop current health and wellbeing services and activities. Organisations applying for a Development Grant must have a clear plan, showing how the grant will support them to grow. The service must demonstrate a sustainable delivery model, I.e., the service will be able to continue beyond the grant period, either through being contracted to deliver services or through individuals paying directly for the service through personal budgets or self-funding.
What can the Fund support?
Grants can be used to fund a wide range of activities and ideas, but applications must demonstrate that the grant will:
- Improve the health and wellbeing of people in the AWC area
- Support the organisation to engage with local NHS providers and social prescribers
- Support a project that can be part of the local community health offer
Eligibility Criteria

Incorporated community groups such as CIOs, CICs and charitable companies from the third sector that:
- Are registered with the Charity Commission, Companies House or Mutual Public Register (FCA)
- Have a constitution or other relevant governance document
- Have a management committee/board of directors/trustees of at least three unrelated people, none of whom have significant control
- Have a bank account under the name of the group with at least two unrelated signatories (if your organisation doesn’t have its own bank account, but does meet all of the other criteria, please contact us to discuss how they can work around this)
- Are based in or supporting people living in the Airedale, Wharfedale and Craven Area
- Are supporting people living in Airedale, Wharfedale and Craven Community Partnership Areas
- Have an appropriate Safeguarding Policy for the people they work with, and an Equal Opportunities Policy or similar
- Charities that are registered with the Charity Commission but are not an incorporated structure can also apply. They must also fulfil the above bullet points. However, grants cannot be used to pay staff that are directly employed by the charity.
