The Aziz Foundation is seeking applications for its grant program to support charitable activities, usually to registered charities or charitable community groups, but sometimes to other bodies or individuals authorised by Board of Trustees.
The focus of the foundation’s work is to identify and address the challenges faced by disadvantaged communities; developing new leadership from within these communities, and enabling them to participate positively in wider society.
Objectives
- The advancement of education
- The advancement of good citizenship and community development
- The advancement of human rights, equality and diversity, conflict resolution and reconciliation, and the promotion of religious and racial harmony
- The prevention and relief of poverty and the relief of those in need, by reason of youth, age, ill-health, disability, financial hardship or other disadvantage
- Such other charitable purposes for the public benefit as are exclusively charitable according to the laws of England and Wales as the Board of Trustees from time to time may determine.
Priority Areas
- Community Empowerment: This work stream will work with disadvantaged communities, particularly African-Caribbean, Gypsy-Traveller, Muslim, and White working class communities to:
- Identify the most pressing issues and needs facing them, and raise awareness around them.
- Support key local and national initiatives that seek to build capacity to address these issues and needs – either directly through direct development work, or indirectly, through arts, culture and sports.
- Develop best practice and efficiency in these communities in addressing their own needs and contributing to the common good.
- Leadership Development: The leadership development work stream will support the development of leadership in disadvantaged communities that is appropriate to their needs, through:
- Identifying gaps in the capacity of the current leadership.
- Supporting the development of initiatives that can fill these gaps in future leadership.
- Identifying potential future leaders and supporting them in equipping themselves for that role.
- Public Engagement: This work stream will assist in strengthening that representation and voice in wider society, to enable them to play an active role in public life, to address their own needs and to contribute to the common good, by:
- Producing their own research and narratives about their communities.
- Learning about public life, engaging in politics and speaking to power.
- Influencing public policy to achieve group justice.
- Speaking to the nation to correct misinformation, stereotypes and prejudice.
- Challenging disadvantage and discrimination through strategic litigation.
Funding Information
The lowest amount that a grant will normally be made for is £500. This applies to small grants. Applicants should be mindful that the foundation can only fund up to 25% of a project and that amount is capped at £15,000.
Eligibility Criteria
- Applications from within the UK and overseas are eligible for consideration,unless specified in the advert.
- Applications for project funding will be considered on their own merit, regardless of previous rejection or receipt of grants.
- The Board of Trustees has ultimate responsibility for all grant-making decisions in line with the Foundation’s charitable purposes and any restrictions agreed with donors and funding partners. However, the Board of Trustees may give certain decision-making responsibilities to its subcommittees or staff within its framework of delegation.
