The Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) is currently seeking proposals for its funding program “National Research Strategy Bioeconomy 2030” to support the implementation of the National Research Strategy BioEconomy 2030 in an international context by funding collaborative R&D projects which involve foreign partners.
The Federal Government’s National Research Strategy BioEconomy 2030 provides the basis for realizing the vision of a sustainable, bio-based economy by 2030.
The aim of this program is to fund German partners (universities, research organisations and industry) in international consortia, preferring cooperation projects with partners in Argentina, Brazil, Canada, Chile, China, India, Malaysia, Russia and Vietnam. However, cooperation projects with other countries are also welcome.
Priority Areas
Projects in the frame of “Bioeconomy International“ shall significantly contribute to at least one of the following fields of action of the National Research Strategy Bioeconomy 2030:
- Securing global nutrition
- Ensuring sustainable agricultural production
- Producing safe and healthy food
- Using renewable resources for industry
- Developing biomass-based energy
Objectives
Projects should address at least one of the following strategic objectives of the German Government towards the internationalization of science and research:
- Strengthening of research collaboration with leading international institutions
- Development of international innovation potentials
- Assuming international responsibility and meeting global challenges
Program Modules
- Bioeconomy International – Basis (BI-Basis): By means of “BI-Basis” German partners in international consortia (beyond EU) can be funded. The international partners have to demonstrate their own financing using a document clearly stating their commitment and financial capability (“Financial Commitment”). The document has to be submitted via the proposal submission by the German partner.
- Bioeconomy Germany/Russia (Bio-Ger/Rus): German-Russian consortia have to apply via this module. The Russian Ministry of Education and Science (MON) has launched an equivalent program in parallel to fund the cooperation partners in Russia.
- Bioeconomy Germany/Vietnam (Bio-Ger/Vnm): German-Vietnamese consortia have to apply via this module. The Vietnamese Ministry of Science and Technology (MoST) has launched an equivalent program in parallel to fund the cooperation partners in Vietnam.
Eligibility Criteria
Applications may be submitted by universities, non-university research institutions, Land and Federal institutions with research responsibilities and by commercial companies based in Germany, particularly small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).
