Does your impact enterprise provide water, sanitation and hygiene solutions? It might be eligible for receiving Social Impact Incentives (SIINC).
This application form is aimed at impact enterprises within the Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) space. It is part of the Social Impact Incentives for Water, Sanitation and Hygiene program (SIINC for WASH) implemented by Roots of Impact and Aqua for All.
The Social Impact Incentives (SIINC) model is an innovative and catalytic financial instrument, where an outcome payer (e.g. a philanthropic organization, development agency or other donors) agrees to make time-limited payments to the enterprise based on the social impact generated by their operations.
SIINC for Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene is an innovative financial model implemented by Aqua for All and Roots of Impact. Its geographic focus is on Asia, Sub-Saharan Africa, and the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region.
In order to benefit from these payments, the enterprise has to raise an investment round in parallel (e.g. equity, debt, and mezzanine). The temporary SIINC payments act as an additional revenue stream to help the enterprise grow and scale.
Funding Information
- SIINC is provided to selected enterprises under the condition that they raise repayable investment(s) (could be equity, debt or mezzanine, etc.) of a minimum of €500,000.
- This means you can raise additional grants, but this should be in parallel to your (repayable) investment round.
Criteria
Applications are now open to companies fulfilling the following requirements:
- being focused on WASH
- preparing for, or already in the midst of, raising repayable investments (min. € 500,000)
- Being based and/or active in Asia, Sub-Saharan Africa, or the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region.
Social Impact Incentives (SIINC)
SIINC is a funding instrument that rewards high-impact enterprises with time-limited premium payments for achieving social impact. The additional revenues enable them to improve profitability and attract investment to scale. Thus SIINC can effectively leverage public or philanthropic funds to catalyze private investment in underserved markets with high potential for positive impact.
Why SIINC is relevant
For impact enterprises and inclusive businesses:
- The SIINC model makes it possible to scale without compromising on generating a strong positive impact. SIINC can act as an additional revenue stream that directly improves the enterprise’s income. With SIINC-related premium payments, the enterprise enjoys full flexibility about the type and source of investment to bring in.
For investors:
- SIINC improves the risk/return profile of high-impact enterprises by rewarding them for their impact. The enterprise will be able to continue or even accelerate its efforts to generate a deep impact while offering sufficient returns.
For public funders and donors:
- SIINC offers great value since an outcome-funder only provides time-limited rewards for the impact that is actually generated. The outcome funder works with the enterprise to decide on the desired outcomes and on the terms for incentivizing these. If SIINC is used properly, the enterprise will continue to generate a positive impact long after the SIINC agreement is finished.
